So if you are tired of gloomy skies and cold winter, Christmas fun is already far behind, and warmth is still so far away—change the boring work routine to palm trees, the ocean, and a colourful CARNIVAL! 🎉🎭💃🕺

Madeira is the perfect place for this 🤌

This year, the Carnival in Madeira will take place from 26th February to 9th of March. Every day, there will be street entertainment with carnival music, shows, performances, and concerts.

🎉 On 28th of February, there will be a Children’s

Carnival. From 10:30, about 1,000 children in costumes will parade from the Cathedral to Praça Central to Avenida Arriaga in Funchal. From 14:30 to 15:30, the Carnival of Solidarity will take place. Around 500 participants will parade from the Cathedral to the Municipal Garden.

🎉 On 1st of March, the main Carnival parade, the so-called Cortejo Alegórico, will take place at the Harvey Foster roundabout at 20:00. Over a thousand revellers, dressed in eye-catching costumes, along with a dozen exquisitely decorated floats, will walk along Avenida Francisco Sá Carneiro and Avenida do Mar until Praça da Autonomia. The Carnival Allegorical Parade exudes brightness, colour, rhythm, and a lot of samba, attracting thousands of locals and tourists alike to the center of Funchal in a true ode to revelry.

🎉 From 3rd to 9th of March, between 20:00 and 21:00, there will be a fashion show on Avenida Arriaga, where you can get to know all the participants better.

🎉 On 4th of March, the “Trapalhão” Parade (slapstick parade), held on Shrove Tuesday, will be classified as a satirical parade. The participants’ creativity knows no boundaries and spans from social and political satire to traditional themes or simple character disguises. The parade starts at 16:00 at the Harvey Foster interchange and ends at Praça da Autonomia. This parade is open to all—locals and tourists alike—whether participating individually or in groups. It is ranked in four different categories: Adults, Children, Best “Trapalhão,” King “Trapalhão,” and Transvestites.
